Camp Improv Utopia West is the flagship West Coast retreat in the Improv Utopia series, held at Camp Ocean Pines on the Central California coast near Cambria. Running Friday afternoon through Monday morning over Memorial Day weekend, the 2026 edition continues the tradition launched in 2011 as Improv Utopia's first camp.
The format blends over 10 hours of workshops from master improv teachers with shared cabin lodging, eight meals prepared by professional kitchen staff, evening performances, and outdoor recreation including archery and axe throwing. Priority registration goes to first-time campers, with a waitlist typically opening before general registration.
Camp Improv Utopia runs multiple retreats each year: see also Camp Improv Utopia East 2026 (August 28-31 in Copake, NY) and Camp Improv Utopia Yosemite 2026 (September 25-28 in Oakhurst, CA).
Confirmed 2026 instructors and topics: Anděl Sudik (Object Work as Meditation), Dwayne Colbert (Character work), Krissy Lenz (Short form games), Marina Mastros (Game creation skills), and Mike McLendon (Scenic structures).
