Overview
The Happy Valley XL Improv Festival is a four-day improv comedy festival in State College, Pennsylvania, hosted by Happy Valley Improv. The sixth edition runs May 20-23, 2027. The festival programs up to 21 teams, each performing a set of 19-23 minutes. The festival's website also encourages visitors to tour Penn State's campus and explore downtown State College.
Happy Valley Improv started in a church basement, where three improvisers began practicing weekly and were joined by a fourth in January 2017. In May 2021 the company took over the lease at 209 W Calder Way and opened The Blue Brick Theatre.
Submissions
The festival accepts long-form, short-form, and hybrid improv teams (no stand-up or sketch), plus individual improvisers for a Festival Ensemble. The 2027 guidelines list a January 15, 2027 deadline and require an unedited 15-25 minute performance video, which teams who played the festival in 2024-2026 can skip unless the team or show has changed significantly.
