Overview

The Vintage Improv Festival (VIF) is an annual improv comedy festival founded in 2018 by Michele "Miki" Manting. It focuses on the talents, needs, and interests of mature improvisers aged 50 and over, though all ages are welcome. Presented by Vintage Improv Festival Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, VIF describes itself as "the only festival in the world that highlights the gifts of life experience in the performance of intergeneration improvisation."

The festival launched as part of the Boston Improv Festival in 2018, became independent in 2019, and pivoted to virtual programming during 2020-2021. It has traditionally been held at Ferry Beach Retreat & Conference Center in Saco, Maine. For the 2026 edition, VIF is departing from its land-based format and will take place aboard the Schooner Ladona, a historic windjammer sailing out of Rockland, Maine. The model is "you pay for the cruise, the improv is free," with cabin prices starting at $3,145 USD. Over its six-year history through 2023, the festival attracted more than 500 participants from over 11 countries across four continents.

VIF also offers year-round online improv workshops via Zoom and a virtual festival pass with classes and performance opportunities.
