Hoopla Impro - the UK's first dedicated improv theatre and largest improv training school - celebrates its 20th anniversary with a months-long festival at its intimate 80-seat theatre at The Miller in London Bridge. Founded in January 2006 by Steve Roe and Edgar Fernando as practice sessions above a pub in Balham, Hoopla has grown into a major institution whose alumni work across theatre, television, and radio. The Evening Standard has called it "London's Best Improv."
The festival features one-off shows from established names in UK improvisation alongside emerging talent. The lineup includes performers from the Olivier Award-winning Showstopper! The Improvised Musical (Dylan Emery, Adam Meggido, Ruth Bratt), The Comedy Store Players (Lee Simpson), Austentatious (Lauren Shearing), and Abandoman (Rob Broderick), as well as Athena Kugblenu (Mock the Week, House of Games). Themed showcases highlight the breadth of UK improv, including Do The Right Scene - described as the UK's longest-running Black improv show - ComediAsians, LadyProv, and Rice and Spice. The festival closes on July 18 with MC Hammersmith's improvised freestyle rap comedy.
